Chartreuse. Most people think of this as the color halfway between green and yellow, or a long forgotten member of the 64-pack of Crayola crayons. It’s also one of the oldest herbal liqueurs and the only one that is naturally green in color. So you might think that the silent monks who bestowed this beloved elixir upon us named it after the color that it resembled, but actually, it’s the other way around—the color was named for the liqueur.
